I started a new project of music posters, mostly classical, but there'll be some others thrown in there on occassion.
Rhapsody in Blue
I wanted it to look like the layers of New York with the subway underneath, the 1920s cabs and the musicians playing in a concert hall. The idea for the blue piano was based on the title but also this Paul Whiteman techni-color film where the orchestra rises out of the piano. (Check out 2:56)
Have a great week!

If you grew up a music nerd like me, then you had tons of music/education cassettes. I had a few favorites, Peter and the Wolf being one of them. I designed this poster with that cassette in mind.
If you're not that familiar with the story, there's a new non-spoken animated version on netflix that is thoroughly enjoyable and I believe you can see most of it on youtube as well.

I just received my copy of The Amazing Animal Alphabet Book and I'm really happy with how it turned out. I had it printed up by blurb.com and loved how it turned out.
The blurb publishing tool was really easy to use and I love the size of the book. It's even got a glossy cover :) And there's an ebook version available for ipad which is just giving me another reason to want an ipad.
In other Animal Alphabet news, I put another shirt up for voting on Threadless.
Which animal from the Amazing Animal Alphabet Band would you like to see on a shirt?

These are the other three constellation paintings in this series. I will likely finish out the series with another few here and there.
Felis Major the Cat playing Piano, another one that's no longer recognized.
Ursa Major, the bear playing violin. Don't mind his bad posture, he's fiddlin' away.
Lepus Major, a hare playing ukulele and tambourine.
The other two are Noctua - the owl and Vulpecula - the fox. I've just listed these in the shop with a few other prints.
I mentioned the other day I had plans to make this a really productive year. In past years I always find myself with tonnes of ideas for paintings but little time to make them happen. This year, I'm making time to paint and draw every day. I've got a really long and exciting poem to share tomorrow, so check back to see that soon.

My series of constellation paintings continues with a fox playing the cello. This was the first one I painted in the series.
I'm really excited to order some samples of the constellation fabric. I realized that with today being Feb 1st I should get back into more sewing. Last year I started sewing on the weekends and made myself several dresses and skirts by the end of the year. I'm looking forward to some spring and summer dresses. How are you coming along with your goals for 2012?

Another constellation painting today. Noctua, the owl is an obsolete consellation that sits on the tail of the Hydra, but I thought it could easily look like a tree branch.
Noctua means Little Owl in latin.
This and a few other constellation paintings are available as 4x6 prints in my shop.
